I think that Microsoft goes out of its way to try to confuse customers. Microsoft should not refer to the Redemption Key provided by the vendor as the Product Key, it is not the Product Key, as understood pre Office It is more like receipt as it is your proof of purchase.
It is tied to you and your computer as it is integrated with your email address and password via your Microsoft Account. I need that product key because my office account has 20 keys, and no way to tie the keys to a particular installation. If I install the wrong one, I'm actiivate to disable that other dcript install.
